So we’ve all heard that building an email list is just one of those things that you need to do, right? That’s because it is. What’s funny though is when someone willingly signs up for our email list, we kind of want them there forever, but then the UNTHINKABLE happens! They Unsubscribe!
Sure, we can get angry and throw a little hissy fit. We can even get a little upset and start that teenage “Whatever” attitude.
Getting an unsubscriber is AWESOME, and I’m going to tell you why.
Jonathan, why is an unsubscriber so cool?
To know why unsubscribers are cool, you have to know what the point of building an email list is. Yeah, it’s great to have a bunch of emails to sell and market and do whatever you want with, but if you only do that, your just asking for people to not like you and not do business with you.
You’re email list is your network hotline. It’s like getting that hot (girls/guys) number that you’ve been looking at for quite some time. When people see something they like that you created, they willingly leave you their contact info saying, “here, get in touch with me again”, and just like a first date, that can go very good, or very bad.
Remember that this person doesn’t know you, they want to GET to know you. If you start immediately with, nice to meet you, buy this from me, you will fail.
Get to know you’re list and let them get to know you.
Build your relationships. The ones that like you, will stick around. The ones that don’t, will break up with you.
That is your unsubscriber!
Could you imagine being forced into a relationship where you couldn’t stand each other? No Way! Unsubscribing is an easy way out. That person is not interested in what you got, and that’s ok. Now you can focus on the people who DO want to chat it up and get to know you.
So I say, love the unsubscriber, because when they leave, they’re just making your list that much stronger.
